Applying systematic conservation planning to improve the allocation of restoration actions at multiple spatial scales

چکیده
Ecological restoration is increasingly being upscaled to larger spatial scales of tens hundreds kilometers. Yet the complex logistics and high costs ecological mean that actions must be placed strategically at local meters maximize benefits reduce socioeconomic costs. Despite purported use systematic planning tools for allocating effort, uptake implementation data-driven goal setting remains poor in many programs. Here we demonstrate how sequential workflows conservation can translated two enhance estuarine fisheries eastern Australia. We select estuaries where feasible recommended based on quantitative regional goals (i.e. regional-scale prioritization), then identify potential sites smaller within principles ecology ensure success are maximized local-scale prioritization). At scale, identified four levels priorities (very high, intermediate, low) using current understanding each system. used spatially explicit Bayesian belief networks outcomes environmental niche habitat-forming species configuration habitats maximizes their by fish. show frameworks become an essential tool optimize investments multiple as efforts upscale globally.

Changes at Multiple Spatial Scales
Change detection on rasterized data is extremely dependent on accurate radiometric and geometric rectification. The development of processing tools able to minimise these requirements has been recognised since the late eighties. In the present paper we present a methodology for detecting changes on multidate satellite images with different radiometric and geometric characteristics via Multireso...

Systematic conservation planning (SCP) is a field of conservation biology concerned with delivering on-the-ground actions that achieve conservation goals. It describes a set of operational models that cover both design and implementation of conservation, with a strong focus on mobilising the collective action typically required to implement conservation. SCP, as it was originally described, was...
متن کاملApplying means-ends analysis to spatial planning
Currently known methods for robot planning fall far behind human capabilities: they require approximations of shapes, and they cannot generate plans which involve moving obstacles to clear a path for the moving object. In this paper, we explore the hypothesis that means-ends analysis based on a world model involving mental imagery allows more human-like solutions. Our method is based on a novel...

15 صفحه اولFrom principles to practice: a spatial approach to systematic conservation planning in the deep sea.
Increases in the demand and price for industrial metals, combined with advances in technological capabilities have now made deep-sea mining more feasible and economically viable. In order to balance economic interests with the conservation of abyssal plain ecosystems, it is becoming increasingly important to develop a systematic approach to spatial management and zoning of the deep sea. Here, w...
